FAQ
My electricity bill is huge, can I do something about it?
Choose an On-Grid solar power system. These systems are designed to work in conjunction with the grid or simply put your electricity supply. The electricity you generate using this system is fed back to the grid. A net meter is installed along with this system to keep track of the electricity consumed by you versus what you generated and fed back to the grid resulting in savings which gets reflected in the bill. But keep in mind that it does not work when the grid is down, so if power back up is your objective, go for an off-grid solar solution.
I have power cut issue, which type of solar solution should I go for?
Go for Off-grid solar power systems. These systems store the electricity produced by conversion in batteries and utilise the stored energy by converting it back to AC so that you can keep running you appliances during power cuts. It's a boon if you are living or planning to live in an area with no mains connectivity. The rising cost of other power sources as well as of and the increasing demand of electricity, especially in high power cut or no grid areas, has resulted in increased demand for such systems. The reduction in battery prices over the years has further brought the system cost down. But if you don't have a power cut issue, then we suggest you go for an on-grid system as it will help you save big on your electricity bill.
Should I install rooftop solar panels?
Whether you should install rooftop solar or not depends upon a lot of factors, none more so than whether you have a free rooftop with enough space and shadow-free area. Post that it depends on what kind of electricity bills you are generating and what kind of power backup you have. In short this can be a little daunting. This is where Luminous has as come up with a really interesting tool the "SolarizerTM". It is a solar calculator which requires very simple inputs and helps you know your solarisation potential. Using the more advanced version, you can further design the system and also personalise it.
Does solar power system work only on sunny days?
No, it even works when it's cloudy! Obviously the power generation will not be optimal but it does not stop working. Also, with 300 sunny days, India is blessed to be the best destination for solar power generation.
How to know solar installation size for my home?
The best way to do it is to call a professional to help you out as there are many aspects and methodologies which needs to be taken into account before one arrives at the recommended system size for a particular site. Therefor it is advised to book a site survey with us and let our solar expert inspect your roof to suggest the best possible solution for you.
What is the efficiency of a power inverter?
When it works the power inverter will consume a part of the input power. The output power will be lower than the input power. The efficiency of the power inverter is the ratio of output power and input power. If the input power is 100 watts (from DC power), and the output power is 80 watts (for AC power). Then the efficiency of the power inverter is 80%. When we use a power inverter, it is better not to power the device for more than 80% of the rated power, and not to be continuously used for a long time.
Are power inverters safe?
While you might get tempted to power something really demanding with your car power inverter, chances are you might damage your car battery this way. While most probably you won't immediately ruin it to the ground, it will quickly degrade and lose capacity.
What are the important things when using a power inverter?
The power inverter output voltage is 220V AC or 110V AC. When in a relatively small space and moveable state, people should pay special attention to it. It is best to place a power inverter in a safe place to prevent electric shock. When not in use, be sure to cut off its power. A power inverter cannot be placed in a warm air outlet or near the location or direct sunlight. Other objects cannot be placed on the power inverter or nearby. Don't put it in rain or sprinkled with water, mainly because of the power inverter is very afraid of the water, it may damage if water enters.
